Quite a while back I had a person in my business who I thought was really going to do great things, he had a great personality a real people person and had his goals set high to live a better than average lifestyle and really wanted to help others achieve great things, so I invested quite some time with him and then one day, what appeared to be out of the blue he stopped doing anything.
He became really slack at returning calls, didn’t show up at meetings when he said he would it was almost a complete turnaround from where he was originally. At first I was gob smacked I really couldn’t understand what had happened, I asked him was he okay had anything changed and he said no everything was fine he had just been busy.
So I did exactly what I teach others to do, I offered a helping hand if he needed it and I just let him know I was there for him if and when he wanted to get started again. Sometimes you just have no idea what is going on in someone’s life, sometimes it can be things they are just not ready to talk about or share because maybe they are embarrassed about it or just don’t feel good or ready to talk about it..
Always keep the door open for people who are on your team just because people hit a rough patch that doesn’t mean we give up on them. Be an all weather person and friend, let others know you are always there for them. Our business is all about people genuinely caring for people.
I just want to make it clear that being there does not mean being a counsellor or a therapist it means being there as a leader someone that can help them to get back on track, being there as someone who genuinely cares and maybe even offers a little tough love.
I got a phone call today to say he wants to come back and get going he had some personal things to sort out and he has done that and now he wants to get back on track, and guess what I am right there ready to help and support him to build his business.
So if someone on your team stops working their business find out if there is a reason and if that reason is something you can help them sort out then do it but if not just let them know your there for them and that the door is always open. You just never know who is going to walk through a door that is always left open.
