Setting goals in Network Marketing

I am sure by now you know the importance of setting goals. Whilst it is not the only thing you need to do to create success it does play a major role in the success process. I do hear lots of people say yeah, yeah, yeah, goals, goals, goals I have heard it all before.

I would just like to remind you of one of my favourite lines from the magical Alice in Wonderland that really spells out why goals are important Alice asked Cheshire Cat:

Setting Goals in Network Marketing“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.”
“I don’t much care where –”
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go.”

So if you want Success in Network Marketing then isn’t it time you decided which way to go? and the only way you can do that is to care about where you are going

By the way I should qualify that this goal setting exercise applies to every area of your life not just to Network Marketing.

1. Firstly goals must be S.MA.R.T. goals

  • S =          Specific

Do you know exactly what you want to achieve. Let’s say you have a goal to be successful in your Network Marketing business. Be very clear about what that means for example: I want to reach the level of (insert the pin level you want to achieve) with an income of say $5,000 a month(you insert the amount you want to achieve). it isn’t enough to say I want to earn lots of money and be successful you must be specific.

  • M =        Measurable

Define the action you need to take to achieve your goal so that you can measure your progress, this will really help keep you on track

  • A =         Attainable

Your goal must be achievable, this is one area that really requires considerable thought. Your goals need to be a stretch but not so much of a stretch that they become unattainable.

  • R =         Realistic

Making sure your goals are realistic means that you can believe that you can achieve them. It is totally counterproductive to set goals that you cannot believe you can achieve. For example you say you want to achieve the rank of Super Hero with your company by the 31st of October.

You have just joined Network Marketing and at this point you:

  1. Haven’t developed any Network Marketing skills.
  2. You are working your business part time only 1-2 hours a day
  3. The 31st of October is 30 days away
  4. You don’t have an existing contact list of people who are successful in Network Marketing or any other kind of list or data base
  5. And the average time it’s taken people in your company who  have, Network Marketing skills, to reach the rank of “Super Hero” is 6 months.

Unless you have some magic formula up your sleeve this goal appears unrealistic!

  • T =          Timely

Having a time line on your goals will help keep you focused and will create that sense of urgency that is needed to take action.

So that means your goal would look like this:

I want to achieve the rank of Super Hero by the 31st July 2012 earning a minimum of $5,000 per month. I will work my business 2 hours a day 5 days a week contacting a minimum of 4 people a day.

Now that this goal is in place write it our clearly and carry it with you and read it at least 10 times a day. You may think this is an unimportant part of the process but I guarantee that if you do this every day all sorts of amazing ideas and happening will come to you.
